OVOC Performing Arts proudly presents "Love Letters" by A.R. Gurney, a captivating drama that explores the complexities of human relationships and emotions. This Pulitzer Prize-nominated play delves into the lives of Melissa Gardner and Andrew Makepeace Ladd III, two characters from affluent East Coast backgrounds, whose deep and nuanced friendship spans nearly half a century. The story unfolds through their exchange of letters, starting from their childhood and continuing through their adult lives, including their experiences at boarding school, travels in Europe, and various personal trials.

Melissa, the richer of the two, is a bit of a rebel, while Andy is more traditional and a natural letter writer. Their correspondence reveals the evolution of their relationship, including periods of estrangement and a clandestine affair that profoundly affects Melissa. Despite their differences and the physical distance between them, they remain each other’s confidante, sharing a bond that is both deeply romantic and tragically complicated.

The play is uniquely staged with a simple setting of two actors behind desks or sitting in chairs, their words painting a vivid emotional landscape. This simplicity allows the audience's imagination to engage deeply with the characters' lives, making each performance a unique experience influenced by the chemistry and interpretation of the actors.

The auditions for this emotionally charged and beautifully written play will take place on Saturday, February 17th at 9:00 AM, at Okanogan High School. We invite actors to bring their own interpretations to these rich characters, as they become a part of this timeless story of love, friendship, and the power of written words.
