Chorus

Harmonizing Hearts, One Note at a Time.

Since our founding in 1984, the Okanogan Valley Chorus has been a vibrant part of our community, bringing voices together in harmony and cultivating a deep love of choral music. We are dedicated to preserving the rich musical traditions of our valley while also embracing a diverse range of musical styles that inspire both our singers and audiences.

Our chorus presents three concerts each year—Fall, Winter, and Spring—where we showcase a broad repertoire that spans classical works, contemporary pieces, and everything in between. These performances are more than just concerts; they are opportunities for the community to come together and experience the joy of music in a shared setting.

In addition to our regular concert season, our members also participate in local theater productions, bringing their vocal talents to the stage in our annual Spring musical. Whether singing as part of a chorus or taking on solo roles, our singers play a key role in bringing these captivating stories to life through song and performance.

We are a close-knit and welcoming community of singers who find joy in making music together. From our Monday night rehearsals to the excitement of our performances, we provide an inclusive environment where singers of all levels can grow and contribute to the art of choral music.

Rehearsals are held every Monday from 6-8 p.m., starting on Labor Day, September 4th, and continuing through mid-March, at the Omak High School Band and Choir rooms (B104-B105). If you’re interested in joining the Okanogan Valley Chorus or would like more information, we would love to hear from you. Contact us at contact@ovocmusic.org.

Choral Director

Derek Pulsifer

Derek Pulsifer is the OVOC choir director for the 2024-2025 season and has been in this role since 2020. Derek graduated from Warner Pacific University and has been an active educator in the North-Central Washington region since 2006, starting at Lake Roosevelt and then moving to Bridgeport, where he taught band, choir, guitar, and mariachi. He is currently the music teacher at North Omak Elementary School.

Derek has been involved with OVOC as a performer for most of that time, participating at different times in the orchestra, choir, big band, and Brassworks. Derek also performs with the Valley Winds concert band and is an active member of the Washington Music Educators Association, where he will be presenting a session on elementary music methods at the state convention this winter and is the president-elect of the regional board.

Derek strives to make the OVOC choir a welcoming place focused on the community of music-making. He understands the value of music in allowing people to tell their stories and programs a diverse selection of music to reflect that. “As an ensemble in a somewhat isolated area, we have the awesome responsibility of bringing music and stories to our community. It’s my job as director to bring life to those different stories and, in turn, allow us as an ensemble and our individual musicians to tell their stories as well through our music. We look forward to sharing our music with you this season!”
